Pastor Hyunung “Chu” Chang, born and raised in South Korea, is a lifelong Methodist and an ordained elder of The Korean Methodist Church, following his father who is also an ordained elder of The Korean Methodist Church, and a former ROK Marine—Semper Fi! Pastor Chu married Young Ju Kim and together they have three children: Jisung, Jiwoo, and Jiwon.
Before he came to the United States, Pastor Chu served diverse congregations in South Korea in various positions over 10 years. During his ministry in Korea, he felt that he was eager to study more, particularly abroad. He didn’t know, however, what God exactly held in store for him and his family. Thankfully and surprisingly, God opened the door and led them to Washington, D.C. in August, 2016 to study at Wesley Theological Seminary. In May of 2018 Pastor Chu received his second master’s degree (M.A.) from Wesley Theological Seminary and came to Greensburg to pastor the First United Methodist Church in June. Pastor Chu loves to read and study the Bible and share the truth of the Word of the Lord with others. He also likes to visit people for pastoral care and support. To him the Bible, prayer, worship, and evangelism are basic and essential features of the Christian life for spiritual growth. As a pastor, he has focused on knowing God and believing in his only Son our Lord Jesus Christ so that we would not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16) in the light of the Kingdom of God.
